Classmates - Scott McGee

After High School, I attended the University of Utah for a year and a half, majoring in Physics. Then I took a year or so off and worked to save for a mission. I spent two years in the England Birmingham Mission between 1979 and 1981. While there, I met Tina Jones, who I wrote to after my return. In 1983 she came to the US and we were married. We have six (6!) kids. In 1997 she left me and we were divorced.

While raising my family, I worked at a number of jobs from working at a gas station, to teaching Elementary School science, to working for the IRS. Finally, in 1988, I returned to the University of Utah where I majored in Computer Science. I have continued to work in that field since. In 1992, I moved to Iowa, and lived in Des Moines for four years, where I worked for a (now gone) company called Microware Systems which produced a UNIX like real-time operating system called OS-9. I worked on a cross development system for use on UNIX platforms and wrote the PowerPC ROM debugger for it.

While in Iowa, I combined and interest in Genealogy and the Web and developed a web based genealogy query system. I worked with the Church on their development of the GEDCOM protocol used to save and store genealogical data. I returned to Utah in 1996, and worked for the Salt Lake Community College as their webmaster and Unix System Administrator. I lived in both Layton and Farmington during this time.

In 2000 I took a job for a computer contracting company as a Unix Systems Administrator. In 2001, I was laid off from my job, and after a family fast, was offered a job with Delta Airlines in Atlanta, GA. I lived there for four and a half years, again working as a Webmaster and Unix System administrator.

My father passed away about 18 months ago. This left my mother lonely and "without purpose, so she chose to serve an LDS mission in the California, Santa Rosa mission. I have recently separated from my second wife, and moved back to Utah to help take care of my mother's home (the same one I grew up in here in Farmington) while she is on her mission. I am currently working as a Unix System Administrator at Hill Air Force Base.

My oldest daughter, Brekke (22), lives in Michigan and has a beautiful daughter, Sarrana (3), my only grandchild. My second daughter, Amy (20), is in the Air Force, stationed at Davis-Monthan AFB in Tucson, AZ. My son Ryan (18) has just finished his senior year of High School. Joel (17), Rachael (15) and Brianna (13) are still in school in Michigan. Also, still living in Georgia, I have a stepson John (23), a stepson Stephen (19) who is in the Army and about to be deployed to Iraq, and a stepdaughter Sarah (13) whom I miss very much.

My favorite past times are messing with the computer (who would have guessed that!), reading science fiction, and riding my motorcycle. I love spending time with my kids and my granddaughter when I can get them here or get away to visit them.
