Classmates - Nancy Bach Weber

Following high school, I attended Dixie College and later transferred to Weber State where in 1980 I graduated with a B.S. in Political Science/ Urban Planning and Social Work. The next fall I went to the University of Denver College of Law where I studied Judicial Administration and graduated a year and a half later with a Master’s Degree in Judicial Administration (M.S.J.A.).

With my degrees in hand, I was eager to finally make big bucks; of course, back in those days I thought 20K was a lot of money. Initially I worked in the Office of State Court’s Administrator in Jefferson City, Missouri. Missouri was too humid for me and my curly hair! I was eager to return to Utah’s dry desert climate and landed a job at the U.S. Bankruptcy Court in Salt Lake City where I worked until there was no longer grant money available to fund my position. Afterwards, I worked for adult corrections in Utah for two years until I landed my dream job of being a Probation Officer for the Juvenile Court in Farmington. Juvenile Probation proved to be very boring and stifling for me. Thus, after two years at the Juvenile Court, I was ready to move on, way on....to Eastern Pennsylvania where I was Deputy Court Administrator.

Through my work as Deputy Court Administrator, I met an accountant, Wally Narlesky, who came to review the court’s financial records. We dated for awhile. He was a native of Bethlehem, PA and coached me along. After a brief courtship we were wed, but a year later my "Wal" died of a massive heart attack at the age of forty-five. Devastated by Wal’s death, I opted to move out to Denver where I had family and friends. There I was a legal administrator for a downtown law firm until I became totally disillusioned with the law and climate of corporate greed.

A new chapter in my life began when I decided to pursue a different career path. I moved back to Utah and worked for the Division of Family Services (DFS) investigating Child Abuse and Neglect. After five years, I was promoted to a management position at the state level. While working for DFS, a foster parent introduced me to my sole mate, and love of my life, Paul Weber. When we met, Paul was an Air Force Captain at Hill Air Force Base. We married after nine months of dating. This time I married because I could not imagine spending my life with anyone else. A couple years after we were married, Paul retired from the air Force and we moved to San Diego, California where he has had a distinguished career and has proved him self to be a brilliant Electrical Engineer.

I work for the County of San Diego investigating Child Abuse and Neglect. Although I find my work very interesting and rewarding, my heart is into being with Paul and being a good wife to him. Almost two years ago, we decided to expand our family with two long haired miniature Dachshund puppies - Sunny Schnitzel and Bachers. They are "our boys" and are loving, loyal family members. Last summer our family expanded again when my elderly parents moved from Utah to be with us. We love having them here and feel truly blessed to be able to have this time with them in their twilight years.
