Classmates - Kerry Twitchell Gonzales

Hi Everyone!

My husband Alex and I moved to a new house - at least new for us since our last house was built in 1908 - 3 years ago this August. It is a 1950s ranch that we are slowly remodeling. We love the East Millcreek area and our huge yard. I've attempted to try my hand at gardening and landscaping but am still learning. I'm not sure I'll ever get that green thumb but not for lack of trying! However, looking at Mt. Olympus and smelling the fresh pine breezes everyday makes up for any yard chall enges I might have!

After completing 8th grade at Redeemer Lutheran School, our son, Kevin, received a scholarship to attend Salt Lake Lutheran High School. He remained a straight A student for 4 years and graduating in 2001, was rewarded with the President's Scholarship to Westminster College. Kevin graduated from Westminster in June 2005, Summa Cum Laude, Alpha Chi, with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Management / Marketing Emphasis. Kevin speaks Japanese and hopes to someday work in international business. He is currently working in the marketing department of a large company here in SLC. Alex and I have been empty nesters (still have one Sheltie dog and two new Calico cats!) for over a year now since Kevin and his buddies are having fun being young bachelors! We couldn't be more proud of him!

About a year after our 20th Reunion I was asked to teach part time as an adjunct instructor in the Visual Art & Design Department at Salt Lake Community College. After working more than 20 years as a graphic designer / art director, I had no idea that my career would move in this direction. But I have thoroughly enjoyed the change! For the past several years I have been teaching full time as an Assistant Professor. I teach beginning and advance classes in: typography, layout, design, package design, advertising, etc. I love teaching and am proud to say I received the first "Excellence in Teaching Award" given to an instructor from the Visual Art & Design Department at SLCC.

I'm also very proud of my husband, Alex, who a few years back, began teaching printing and computer classes at Salt Lake Community College, also in the Visual Art & Design Department. He has enjoyed his nighttime "fun job" while working days as an estimator for a printing business. He is the Renaissance Man I married; still making beer and wine, excellent gourmet cook (am I lucky or what???), winning awards as a silhouette marksman, dabbling at fly fishing, always the trivia master, jazz / baseball / golf lover, etc.

Me? I still support Planned Parenthood, the Humane Society, and ANYTHING that will save us from the current political horror show, a.k.a. the Bush Administration! But mostly, I'd rather relax on the back patio with a cold whiskey sour and watch the sunset!

Who knows where I'll be in another 10 years but for now all is well!

Thanks and have a great Reunion!

Kerry (Twitchell) Gonzales
