Classmates - Jarolen Stewart Brough

After graduating from Davis High I went to Weber State where luckily I met and dated Steve Brough (DHS Class of 74) after he returned home from an LDS mission to Oklahoma. We were married, graduated from college and had 5 children while we lived in Kaysville and then later Fruit Heights where we built our home that we still live in today. Steve sold Real Estate while I stayed home as we raised our children together these past 27 years. A few years ago I began keeping his company books, paying taxes, payroll and accounts payable which has kept me pretty humble learning new computer skills for all of these areas. Our oldest son Stewart married Becca Sorenson from Riverton while at Utah State University and made us grandparents to a blonde haired baby boy named Eli. Our oldest daughter Laurie married a “cowboy” Carl Wilhelm from the University of Wyoming this last fall and now when we go to Laramie to visit, we remove any and all BYU insignia. We are glad they are moving back here after graduation. Our next oldest son Todd is a brand new missionary serving in the Peru, Lima South Mission and having a great experience even though we miss him dearly. This fall our youngest daughter Leesa will enter Davis High as a sophomore and hopefully keep the family tradition alive of running Cross Country. Our youngest son Jed will be in the 6th grade at Morgan Elementary and is the only one left in the family that I can still see the top of his head as everyone else has passed me up in height.

I have had 3 children graduate from Davis High so far and each time I have attended their graduations it seemed like it was only yesterday that I was doing the same thing myself. Yet when I get a close up look at those very young graduates I am clearly reminded that it was maybe a little more than just "yesterday" when I went to Davis High. Even so, I have many good memories of my high school years and feel fortunate indeed to have had such good friends and teachers as I was able to participate in many clubs and other activities and events. I have great memories of competing on the Girls Tennis Team for 4 years and singing with the Madrigals and Miss Fairbanks, making my senior year really special. I was able to be around some really good kids who were true examples to me of sportsmanship, hard work and how to have a lot of good fun at the same time.

My family though is certainly my greatest blessing and Steve and I continue to take great joy in watching our children as they seem to have grown up too quickly. It has been difficult to see them already begin to leave home for college, missions, and marriage. But on the other hand I guess I wouldn’t want them to live with us forever either! So I decided the true dilemma is that time just goes way too fast!

I have really had a great experience working with the reunion committee this past year and I am grateful that I was able to be a part of it all. I didn’t ever realize until now the amount of time and organization a class reunion takes. But, I also didn’t realize how much fun we would have making it all happen! Best Wishes to the Class of 1976!!!
