Classmates - Diane Godfrey Eckles

Hi Everyone,

I am in denial, it can’t be 30 years. This must be a dream.

After high school, I graduated from Utah State University with a BS in Nutrition and Food Science in 1980. (Logan is still one of my favorite places.) I then moved and worked as a microbiologist for a laboratory in Salt Lake City. In l985 I decided I need to move out of Utah so I moved to Phoenix, Arizona. Not a big move but big for me.... In l986 I married Rick Eckles who is from Richfield Utah. We both attended USU at the same time but did not meet until I lived in SLC. I convinced him he needed to come to Phoenix and sweat with me. So 20 years later we are still in Phoenix and we still haven’t learned that it is really hot in the summer. It is only 108 today. We have one son, Ryan, he is 13 and turning into a typical teenager.

Ryan keeps me busy when I am not working, I am currently working on my eagle scout - oh I mean Ryan is currently working on his eagle scout award.

I have spent the past 18 years working for the Arizona Department of Health Services. I have worked as a microbiologist, laboratory inspector and am currently responsible for the Children’s Environmental Health Program. I really enjoy working in public health and learn new things every day.

We love Arizona and have been able to spend time in most of the state, we have also turned into big Phoenix Suns and Arizona Diamondback fans. We make it up to Kaysville at least a couple of times a year to visit family and especially in the late summer to raid my dad’s garden. I still miss the beautiful mountains but now love saguaro cactus!

So I guess it really has been thirty years, take care.
