Classmates - Dan Horton

Immediately following High School, I attended BYU for one year. I then served a mission to Toulouse, France. Following my mission I returned to BYU and I graduated in April 1982. I made it through BYU without getting married which I think made me available for tuition reimbursement but I'm still waiting for the check. I worked at a few jobs trying to "find myself" (a few years late, don't y'a think). I eventually started working at the Davis County Sheriff's Office. I met Holly Kinard (a fellow Dart) and we married on May 12, 1984. We have five children; Austin 21, attending BYU; Brody 18, leaving in September for LDS mission to Tahiti; Landon 14, 9th grade; Alison 10; 5th grade; and McKay 7, 2nd grade. I did a lot of different things at the Sheriff's Office. Most of my time was spent working and supervising the Jail. I also wrote grants and was the media spokesman for several years. After 20 years I was offered a job as a Chaplain for VistaCare Hospice. I was able to retire and accept this position. I counsel and minister to patients who have 6 months or less to live. I also help members of their family. It has been very fulfilling. My wife feels it is my reward for dealing with people who didn't like me for twenty years. I just find it very satisfying. I have also been a High School Basketball referee for the past 25 years. Even though I enjoy this a lot I have retired from this to watch my son play. Most of my activities and hobbies have revolved around my family and church activities. I have lived in Layton since graduating from BYU. Currently we live in a house that was my wife's grandparents home. We purchased it when they died and have done a couple of additions but we love where we live. We are close to family and friends. We see many of you often and enjoy this association. I have enjoyed very much being part of this reunion planning. It gave me the opportunity to talk to many of you. I also had the great pleasure of spending time with some of our faculty as the DVD was made. I want to thank Jarolen Brough (Stewart), Alan Winter, Jackie Vance (Wright), Jody Lewis, Ronda Page (Johnson), Vaughn Raymond, Georgia Wilcox (Heywood), Sharlene Weight, Scott McGee, Kevin Pederson and Mark Lawson for helping me with this. We had a blast!
